Martijn Schuppers

Martijn Schuppers does not want the observer to notice how a piece is made. A direct relation to the art of photography is established in the way he emphasizes the anonymous character of image on canvas. The subject of his photographs is always the connection to the art of painting. This is actually the case for both his paintings and his photographs. In his most recent works (2013 - 2016) Schuppers makes use of metallic paints that are strongly reflective. He also experimented with fluorescent paint and reflecting foil that reflect the surrounding light, thus creating an increasingly strong relation to the surroundings. Illusionist objects that appear to be different in every light and space.
